Highlight your text - then select the numberining icon
Numbering will appear automatically. However, if you need roman numerals, or some other style of numbering then select Format > Bullets and Numbering ...
This allows you to chose from a standard list - or you can customise your numbering, for example, if you need it to start at a number other than one.
You can chose a variety of styles - including First, Second, Third, etc. You can alter the font and text effects and you can choose the starting number.
